Stella Sullivan

Bright. Dedicated. Loyal.

The day I walked into his boardroom, I had no idea my life was about to change forever. It was supposed to be a simple proposal that would catapult my career. The chance to help Hurst & McCoy save one of their flailing business lines seemed simple enough. However, I never expected that one look at Maxwell McCoy would have me grasping for control. He’s demanding, charming, powerful; most of all he’s beautiful, inside and out. As hard as I fought against the attraction, he broke down my defenses. But he’s hiding things. Even when secrets, lies, and greed threaten everything I have worked so hard for, I couldn’t walk away. There’s no denying, the moment my eyes landed on Maxwell McCoy was the moment I became his.

Maxwell McCoy

Rich. Brilliant. Powerful.

People only see me as CEO of Hurst & McCoy. The ruthless businessman whose mere presence demands respect. People don’t know I chose to leave a life I loved in order to protect my father’s legacy and reputation. When my company’s future was threatened, I had no choice but to seek assistance. The day Stella Sullivan walked into my boardroom was the day my heart started beating again. One business proposal, from the topaz-eyed beauty, changed my life. She tried to deny our unyielding chemistry, but I wouldn’t. I should let her go, but I didn’t.

The smokescreen I created soon comes crashing down, forcing me to fight for everything I love.

Liezel’s Thoughts:

I absolutely LOVE strong female heroines and Stella Sullivan sure did portray an amazing one in “Smokescreen”. We are first introduced to her character as the owner of a small PR firm who is  vying for Hurst and McCoy’s business. Their company has caused one international shit storm and CEO Maxwell McCoy is looking for someone with fresh and new ideas to salvage their company’s reputation. As soon as Max catches a glimpse of Stella he knew that she was  something special but it was when she goes over her proposal is when he knew that she was positively “the one.”

Right then and there Max decides that he wants her both for her brain and her body but he is hesitant. It wasn’t just the fact that she would be working for him professionally but mostly because he has a crazy amount of baggage. While most women would run away from that kind of crazy …. not Stella. She just can not ignore the connection between them and was willing to look beyond it. Being the smart woman that she is, she had multiple stipulations yet Max  accepts all of them just for a chance to be with her. What was great about this was Max was named the Most Eligible Bachelor and could have any woman he wanted but it was Stella that he pursued.

I thought the courtship was great! Max  did manipulate his way into Stella’s life but even if he was in her bed they still managed to take things slower than expected. I personally couldn’t help but admire this guys patience. He had needs yet it was always Stella’s that was his priority. I would have to say that I loved their entire relationship. They had so much going against them yet they always managed to stand together and conquered all the issues as one.

“People may say you are perfect for me, but to me you’re just perfect. Everything about you is flawless. I won’t and I can’t live another day on this earth without you…”

What I loved most about this book is the character development. I adored Stella for her courage, her compassion, her drive and especially for her selflessness. This woman certainly had a heart of gold. I thought her pairing with Max was spot-on fantastic. He had his devious moments but if you think about it all of that was always in Stella’s best interest.  Their chemistry and passion was magnificent. The supporting characters were  great.   Honestly, I thought that Pedro and even Wren were very impressionable. I’m really hoping that one day the author decides to expand  on each of their stories.

The bottom line is “Smokescreen” had everything I personally look for in a book.  It possessed a well-written story that contains one compelling plot, beyond fabulous  characters and the just the right amount of romance between a perfect couple. I definitely couldn’t ask for more.
