What do you do when the man you love leaves, and the only man you’ve wanted since is the one you can’t have?

When Emma’s first love walked away after learning she was pregnant, she was forced to pick up the pieces, re-evaluate her priorities, and change the course of her dreams all for the sake of her son, who became the only one who mattered.

It also meant taking a job with Jack McMillan; powerful, sexy, controlled, and CEO of McMillan Holdings.  Emma has spent the last several years keeping her dreams and fantasies of Jack to herself, but one night, and one encounter, changed everything.

Once the walls between them are dropped and the truth is laid bare, will Jack and Emma’s new relationship be able to survive? When they are forced to confront their pasts, will they learn to finally put their trust in someone else, or will the lies that are told destroy them both?

Liezel’s Thoughts:

For years the enigmatic Jack Mcmillan had his eye on this personal assistant/cook/housekeeper Emma, not knowing that Emma too was lusting for him just the same. Despite the chemistry swirling around them they somehow maintain a courteous and professional relationship. It takes a blind date for Jack to realize that Emma is so much more than just an employee to him. But Jack is a womanizer who has never been in a serious relationship.  Emma never wanted to be anyone’s one night stand. With a child to think of, she wanted something more permanent and stable. With Jack showing interest in her – will Emma be able to accept him despite his dating history? Was she willing to break all her rules and trust a man who is known for his philandering ways?

From the very beginning, I fell in love with Emma. She’s intelligent and outgoing, caring and loving, sassy and sexy and most especially confident. Even if she’s just paid employee she’s able to hold her own around her boss and his colleagues. Despite being raised by a single parent Emma’s son, Logan wanted for nothing. Emma made sure that he was her first priority in everything. She sacrificed so much to raise her child and this goes to show how much grit and fortitude she possessed.

Jack’s character was likable as well. He says he has never been in love, he says he will mess up but for one who has never been in a relationship, he seems like a pro. It takes him awhile to realize what he really feels but when he finally got to that point… he made my head spin. Totally swoon-worthy. I can not tell you how many times I’ve read that epilogue.  It’s fantastic.  He is just AMAZING. In more ways, than I can ever count.

The chemistry between the two is volatile. Their encounters together are pretty steamy. Yet despite the eroticism, the story did have a substantial plot. There have been so many romances lately that fail to deliver a story beyond the physical aspects which I find disappointing but this story does not fall into that category.

Jack and Emma aren’t the only likable characters in this story. Marcus is as well. He could have easily manipulated a situation for his own personal gain but he was willing to make sacrifices for Emma’s happiness. I loved that he was never afraid to show his emotions. When he shed those tears, I shed some tears. It was very moving.  I’ve decided that this is the only disappointing aspect of this book – that it is a standalone. I would have enjoyed reading a story on how he too obtains his HEA. With a character with that much personality, his story screams to be written.

I absolutely loved this book.  I thought it was electrifying and captivating. The story telling also flowed smoothly and effortlessly. The character build-up was also superb. All of it was just simply perfect.  A definite must read.

The Verdict:

rating-4

Excerpt:

He placed both of his hands on the wall next to me, and thrust his hips into my stomach. The move practically pinned me against the back of the wall as the entire length of Jack’s body pressed up against me.

I felt everything. And all I could think of was how I wanted his hands back on me. Anywhere. Doing anything he could to relieve the fire he so quickly started in me. How in the hell was I going to survive dinner?

“I can’t wait to be inside you later. I want to watch you writhe in pleasure beneath me until you’re so thoroughly fucked you can’t walk tomorrow. I have big plans for you tonight Emma.”

About Stacey Lynn

Stacey Lynn left her workplace in a cube farm at an insurance company, as soon as her first child was born and has never once looked back.
Years – and four kids later – she rediscovered her love of reading in an effort to find a brief escape from the mountains of laundry, dust balls, and dishes. Reading turned into her daydreaming, and soon…an idea was born. Once the story became loud enough that she couldn’t ignore it any longer, she put down her Kindle (briefly!) and began her work on Just One Song.
Stacey loves hearing from readers.
