TRAGIC is over and Rook is ready for the future—Spencer Shrike and the STURGIS contract!

It’s three months of body art modeling! That means three months of Spencer Shrike’s paintbrush all over her body, three months in front of Antoine’s camera, and three months of twenty-four hour filming for Spencer’s Biker Channel reality show.

Wait a minute…what reality show? Maybe she should’ve read that STURGIS contract a little closer? 😉

Sure, Rook’s bank account is almost overflowing, but Ronin is angry, Clare is trying to escape rehab, Antoine is a worried mess, and Elise is just trying to hold everyone together. Her new family is about to fall apart before she even gets the chance to enjoy them.

Add in a mysterious man from her past, a road trip to the famous Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, and a final show in front of the entire world where all her good are on display, and you’ve Manic—a new adult contemporary romance that will definitely make your summer sizzle!

Liezel’s Thoughts:

For years Rook Walsh has lived a crappy life. Fleeting from one foster home  to another and eventually becoming homeless and desperate  she accepts an offer she can’t afford to refuse and goes home with Jon. Just when she thought that her life could not get any worst she finds herself trapped in a controlling and abusive relationship. It takes it almost being beaten  to death for her to decide that she needs to  escape or face her demise. After she leaves the city of Chicago she promises  herself that she would never give up full control of her life to anyone ever again.
By fate she ends up in Denver and on the stairwell of Antoine Chaput’s studio. Homeless, broke and alone she is given the opportunity of a lifetime – to model. Immediately she agrees to this venture and the promises she made to herself are slowly deteriorating. She starts trusting others, developing newer relationships and even relinquishing the little control she has.
Ronin can not resist  her. He is caught up in her spell. He wants to know where she’s from, what makes her tick and why she seems so damaged.  She tries to resist him but being in constant physical  contact for the job makes it all that more difficult. Not knowing all that has been going on in her past, Ronin pushes her eventually forcing her to make impulsive decisions. Because of this she is now stuck in a contract that will test her relationship. On top of all that stress her past finally catches up with her as well.  Now that she is stronger will she run again or face the trails head on?

” You are everything I want. I love all your parts. I love the wary parts, the defiant parts, the independent parts, and your innocence and vulnerability. I want you next to me and when you’re not there I feel like a part of me is missing. I’m so in love with you, Rook. So fucking in love with you, it scares me.”

I have another trilogy to add to my favorites. I absolutely, positively, irrevocably love this series!  It’s nothing like I’ve ever read before. There are multiple stories out there about bikers, rock stars and actors but never in my years have I come across a book about models.

This one is basically a “rags to riches” type of story. Rook came from nothing and because of fate she now has more than she can ever possibly want. The road to her success has been rough and even given all these opportunities she remains grounded. For a nineteen year old I thought she was sharp and witty. Obviously she’s very attractive  but she never let that get to her. Being from humble beginnings she valued much. Just the simple things made her happy.

I did enjoy Ronin’s character too.  There were times he made me so frustrated especially when it came to dealing with Clare but in the end he did follow through. He was always protective and caring of Rook. He would give up everything  just as long as he had her in his life.

I was also impressed with the supporting characters most especially Spencer and Rutherford. Ford more than ever. The (almost) triangle just made the story even better. I loved how despite all their history and dynamics they were all able to get past that , come together and get “things” done.

The best thing I loved about this book? It doesn’t contain a cliffhanger AT ALL which I find really rare in series books nowadays. Even without a cliffhanger the author is  able to hold my attention and still making  me beg for more. Kudos to you JA Huss for writing one fantastic, suspenseful , provocative and sexy story.

This is definitely one series that I highly recommend.

About J. A. Huss

J. A. Huss likes to write new adult books that make you think and keep you guessing. Her favorite genre to read is space opera, but since practically no one reads those books, she writes new adult science fiction, paranormal romance, contemporary romance, urban fantasy, and books about Junco (who refuses to be saddled with a label).

She has an undergraduate degree in horses, (yes, really–Thank you, Colorado State University) and a master’s degree in forensic toxicology from the University of Florida. She used to have a job driving around Colorado doing pretty much nothing but shooting the breeze with farmers, but now she just writes, runs the New Adult Addiction and Clean Teen Reads Book Blogs, and runs an online science classroom for homeschoolers.
