Twenty-one year old Grayson Alexander finally breaks away from an abusive relationship and finds herself free for the first time in three years.
Determined to enjoy her new-found freedom, Grayson is intent on sticking with 'no strings attached' relationships—one-night stands, and steamy sex.
But she didn't plan on Derrick.
Her attraction to the sexy man in uniform quickly turns into an unhealthy relationship. They both try to resist the pull, but neither can stay away.
When tragedy , Grayson realizes it's now or never—walk away or make it work.
Now or Never is about a woman trying to find herself. Grayson has been in a controlling relationship for years and finally when she gets out of it she is determined to exert her FREEEDOOOM! (who doesn’t love Braveheart?!) She has never experienced a one-night stand before and with her sister encouragement – she tries it out. It being a military town her choices in men are abundant and she doesn’t hesitate to try the wide variety of men at her disposal.
Even with all the men she’s been with, for some reason there is this one man where her mind keeps wandering to- Derrick. She first sees him at Starbuck’s just a couple days after leaving her fiancée. The attraction was instantaneous. She’s was tempted then to accept his proposition but wasn’t ready for a man just when she just left another a couple days earlier. Come to find out Derrick is a good friend of Grayson’s brother. She is officially introduced at a family gathering. She is warned then that Derrick is a player but that doesn’t seem to discourage her.
Just when she thought the attraction was fleeting, the chemistry between them is greater than they both thought. In attempts to get each other out of their system they agree upon a “friends with benefits” relationship. As they spend more and more time together they realize that mind-blowing sex isn’t the only thing that they have in common.
When Derrick goes off to war, Gray finally admits to herself that maybe they can have something more. Question is …are both on board on trying to make it work or does one of them have something holding them from moving forward?
While there were some strong points in this story I thought that the way Grayson went about some things was undesirable. I love that she was willing to give her fiancée the benefit of the doubt that he could possibly change but two years of abuse was a little bit much.
She never was the outgoing type that her sister was but she was willing to leave her comfort zone, experience new things and even take some risks. Although to me, it seemed she never was concerned about her personal safety – she was just too trusting.
What I did like about this story was the chemistry between Gray and Derrick. I thought they were good together, not just in the sack but I truly see them getting along and starting a serious relationship. I loved when she finally realized that Derrick was so much more she was willing to be the first one to admit her feelings first instead of waiting for him to make the first move. To me that took a lot of bravery and determination especially with a man with Derrick’s history.
In my opinion, this book is an easy and fast read worth look into. I thought Now and Never was a good debut for this first time author and I am looking forward to reading more of her work.
