Hiding behind the anguish from my past, my coyness seeps off of me like an aroma. I have felt like a stranger in my own skin, trying to claw my way out for far too long, allowing very few people to see past my façade…until my eyes met with his. I felt a sudden rush of energy all the way to my core. It jolted me in ways I never thought possible.

Never in a million years would I have expected to be in the mess I am today. It all leads back to the night Parker Porter turned my world upside down. The night his hazel eyes undressed me, peeling away the layers of the woman I tried so hard to be. He awoke desires that burned deep within me and changed me in one quick glance, leaving me vulnerable and exposed, picking up the shattered pieces of my carefully constructed life…a life I should not be living…a life I was not born into, but placed into by the state of Maine.

Parker opened a door that I am far from closing until I have answers and am able to face the life I was destined to live. I just have to decide if his love is worth the mess.

Liezel’s Thoughts:

This review is honestly one of a few hard ones I had to write because I really feel torn about this story. There were just so many wonderful things about it that want me to rate it a 5 then looking back there are also a couple of issues that left me baffled too.

The first of my many positives is the characters. I adored Parker. He did his best given the situation he was in. After everything was said in done he did the best he could given the circumstances. When he finally realized what Grace meant to him he never faulted on showing how much he loved her and how dedicated he was to protect her. She just wasn’t a job to him. He would have literally given up his life to keep Grace safe. And yes, I won’t forget to mention that Parker was one dynamo in the bedroom – he was just spectacular.

It took awhile to unearth Grace’s whole history and I loved how it kept me guessing. What happened to her is absolutely grotesque but she was able to rise above it all and move on in life. I admired Grace’s strength and her courage to get through something that horrible.

What I loved most about this was reading Grace’s background story. She was one of the fortunate ones and I appreciated how she returned that priceless gift that was given to her. The ending was just heartwarming and amazing.

What baffles me though is when she uncovers pertinent information about her past she acted like a whole different person. She was so immature about these facts that to me were inconsequential. I was really not expecting her reacting that way given how  I came to admire her throughout the book. It just seemed a little inconsistent.

This is the first book I have read from this author and I did like how it was written. Although, it might have been over written (if that is possible?). There was just so much going on in this book and while it did keep me on my toes some of the coincidental occurrences were just too excessive to me. It sure did keep things interesting, though.

I do have to say that from the very beginning the author was able to capture my attention and keep me hooked into this story. I loved the unique aspects of this one. Like any other book though there are both good and bad things and even with my reasons listed above I still would say that this book is definitely worth looking into.

The Verdict:
