Maddox is running.
By accident, he discovered long ago that he was adopted as a baby and his need to find his biological father has consumed him ever since. Now, on a road trip, determined to find his father and his sanity, and armed with locations and his cousin, Nixon, to help him, maybe he can find the answers he’s been searching for. With nothing but a suitcase and a wad of cash to get him there, lead after lead takes him further from home.
But he’ll find much more than he intended.
He finds Storey, a pint sized pin-up model who has learned painful lessons about guys. Her wounds run deep, but so do his. She knows what she wants, but will she recognize it when it’s right in front of her?
Maddox can’t touch anyone without feeling like his skin is crawling, but just maybe his instinct to protect this amazing girl will supersede his own hang-ups.
If he can brush her skin and start to feel alive inside...everything will change.

Liezel’s Thoughts:

Amongst the first three books in this series, this one is by far my favorite. Why? There’s just something about Maddox that I find most appealing. Maybe it was the way he supported both Reed and Falcon when they were having their issues in Book 2 or perhaps is his overall demeanor in this story that caught my attention. For an eighteen-year-old I thought he was mature for his age.

In this story, he leaves the only place that he has known as home to seek out his father that abandoned him when he was very young.  He decided to do this out of sheer curiosity. He wasn’t seeking retaliation for the pain he was caused due to abandonment. He just wanted to meet and get to know his biological father.

As the story moves along it was as if Las Vegas and California beckoned to him. Maybe it was because he was so close to finding his long-lost father… or maybe it was something more. Someone named Storey perhaps.

Maddox stumbles upon her my accident or maybe it was a stroke of FATE. From the first time they meet, he showed an impressive amount of chivalry by defending her honor. This immediately caught Storey’s attention and the fact that he was drop dead gorgeous. Storey is attractive as well-being that she was a model. What I loved about her was that despite her beauty she was extremely down to earth and never let her stature get to her head.

I loved how their relationship starting with a trusting friendship.  Mad has issues that he wasn’t willing to discuss with anyone but with Storey it was as if she was the one that held the key. From early on I admired how they were always transparent and open with each other.

What also earned my admiration was how Mad went about dealing with his newly found family. He went above and beyond and made sure that they had what they needed. Even when some situations did not go as planned he never hesitated to offer solace to that one person needing it the most.  That is one of the best things that adore about this entire series – how it centers around family.

What I found most impressive about this entire book (the first 3 for that matter) is a romance it does not contain of any form of sex or physical relations but despite that it did not fail to keep me intrigued and get my heart racing. The author was able to keep it clean which I find extremely rare in the genre.

If you asked me what my favorite part of the book is I would say there were two. I loved the scene that involved the author with her characters in the end. The second part was the outstanding epigraphs before each chapter. Every single one was appropriate and meaningful. As the book went on I found myself wanting to get to the next as soon as I could.

Loved this story and I can’t wait to read more about this couple in upcoming books in this series.

The Verdict:

rating-4

About Lila Felix

I am a stay at home mom from the South and wife to the most giving and hard working husband ever. I love to cook and try out new recipes even if they don’t always turn out like I want them to. I refer to my kids lovingly as the Three Stooges as they are constantly coming up with new ways to reek havoc in the house. Most recently that included putting a rubberband on the kitchen sink sprayer so it would douse me when I did the dishes. I love to go to roller derby bouts and read in my spare time. I write mostly at night when the house is silent and I can sneak cookies without having to share! If you’re into stalking, try under the Cypress trees in the swamps of Louisiana, but watch out for gators!!
