Love isn't supposed to be an addiction. It isn't supposed to leave you bleeding.
Kona pushed, Keira pulled, and in their wake, they left behind destruction.
She sacrificed everything for him.
It wasn't enough.
But the wounds of the past can never be completely forgotten and still the flame remains, slumbers between the pleasure of yesterday and the thought of what might have been.
Now, sixteen years later, Keira returns home to bury the mother who betrayed her, just as Kona tries to hold onto what remains of his NFL career with the New Orleans Steamers. Across the crowded bustle of a busy French Market, their paths collide, conjuring forgotten memories of a consuming touch, skin on skin, and the still smoldering fire that begs to be rekindled.
When Kona realizes the trifecta of betrayal—his, Keira's and those lies told to keep them apart—his life is irrevocably changed and he once again takes Keira down with him into the fire that threatens to ignite them both.
The story starts off in present time with Kiera returning to her hometown for her mother’s funeral. While you would think that this would be a period of mourning for our heroine, it isn’t like that at all. Let’s just say that their relationship was beyond strenuous. Her mother was abusive and controlling. I imagine this was one of the reasons that Kiera gravitated towards Kona in the first place. He was not the picture perfect man who her mother would want her getting involved with. Which brings us to the past…
The couple first meet in college. They didn’t have a single thing in common except for a partnership in one of their classes. They shared a project that Kona had no interest in participating in. He says he’s beyond busy being the popular jock that he is and ends up proportioning Kiera to get out of doing the work. This is where we first see Kiera’s claws. No matter how attracted she was to Kona she was one of those that wouldn’t take any BS even if he strongly affected her.
“I don’t want easy. I want impossible.I want love so thick, I drown in it.”
Kona is one of those guys that never had to chase after a woman. They normally just fall at his feet and he thought she would be just like them but oh how wrong he was. She was definitely more than he expecting. For one she had one vicious temper earning her her nickname “Wildcat”. Most men would have been put out by that but Kona was anything but. If anything that interested him even more.
They both had this aggressive nature about them which leads them into this crazy kind of love. It was toxic and basically felt like a very unhealthy relationship. For me ,it was just that and the multiple manipulators and other obstacle they had to get past was what made their story especially fascinating. Despite all that darkness, pain and heartache surrounding them you can’t help but root for them.
All in all I thought this was a magnificent second chance romance. It was a tad on the lengthy side than most books I’ve read recently but I seriously did not mind one bit. I savored each and every moment of this emotional story. I thought the characters and flow was impeccable. The transition between the past and present and POVs between Kiera and Kona was done very smoothly. “Thin Love” is a definite must read in my opinion.
