The New York Times bestselling author of Slow Burn turns up the heat when a sexy bet turns into so much more…

Hawkin Play, the bad boy rock star with a good guy heart, has lived a lifetime of cleaning up after his twin brother’s mistakes. Hunter’s most recent screw-up could land Hawke in jail and risk the band’s future. Hawke agrees to guest lecture at a local college to stay in the judge’s good graces—and a bet with his bandmate to seduce his sexy teaching assistant is icing on the cake.

Quinlan Westin is harder to bed than Hawke imagined. She knows his type and is determined to avoid the rocker at all costs—even if their attraction runs deeper than simple lust.

Just as Hawke might finally be winning over the girl, his brother has other plans. When Hunter realizes his twin finally has a weakness, he’ll stop at nothing to take advantage…

Liezel’s Thoughts:

I do have to admit that I was quite anxious about starting this sixth installment of the Driven Series. This is because I was immensely  disappointed in the previous book, Slow Burn. After finishing this story last night however, I do have to say that I was worrying for nothing because “Sweet Ache” was simply… sensational.

I appreciated how the hero of the story – Hawkin Play was multidimensional.   He wasn’t this out of control, egotistic rock star that you expected him to be. He did love his craft and was even good at it but what was so impressive about him was how committed he was to his family. No matter what was happening in his life, his twin brother -Hunter and his mother were always  his priority. Even if they consistently turned his life upside down he  stayed bound to  this desperate promise that was made years ago.

To say this guy had a ton of baggage would definitely be an understatement. The amount of abuse  he experiences from the people who should supposedly love him unconditionally  is beyond overwhelming.  After all that he endured it isn’t surprising  why he refused to open his heart to anyone…that is up until Quinlan Westin enters the picture.

“…love is like rain. You can’t always predict it and when you do it might never appear, but you can always see the signs of it before it falls.”

Now if you’ve read the first few books in the series you know just how remarkable Quinlan is. Immediately I thought that if there was anyone that could get through to a man like Hawke it would be Quin. She certainly had the practice dealing with complicated men since she had a brother like Colton Donovan. That being said, I thought she was a perfect match for Hawke. In all ways… she understood him.

Another thing  noteworthy about this fantastic couple was  the  verbal altercations, the maddening bickering and the insane innuendos during their early encounters. They both  gave as good as they got. From that alone I thought their chemistry was off the charts and as the story flowed  that chemistry kept evolving. Just like any of the other books in the series I thought the passion and romance that was put into those love scenes were magnificent but that wasn’t what I enjoyed most.

What I did enjoy most  was the story’s depth. “Sweet Ache” isn’t just a straight forward romance. It possessed multiple components that will give you goose bumps. It will break you down and then lift you right back up again. My only regret about it was that it ended. Honestly, I felt that there was so much more story to tell and I kind of wished that this fantastic couple and the rest of “Bent” had their own separate series.

The Verdict:

rating-4

About K. Bromberg

K. Bromberg is that reserved woman sitting in the corner that has you all fooled about the wild child inside of her–the one she lets out every time her fingertips touch the computer keyboard. She’s a wife, mom, child rustler, toy pick-er-upper, chauffer, resident web-slinger, LaLaloopsy watching, American Girl doll dressing multi-tasker of all things domestic and otherwise. She likes her diet cokes with rum, her music loud, and her pantry stocked with a cache of chocolate.

K. lives in Southern California with her husband and three children. When she needs a break from the daily chaos of her life, you can most likely find her on the treadmill or with Kindle in hand, devouring the pages of a good, saucy book.

Fueled is K. Bromberg’s second published novel and is the highly anticipated second book of “The Driven Trilogy.” Driven was her well-received debut novel and Book #1 of the series.

So glad to hear that I wasn’t the only one. Really felt bad …that I didn’t like it as much as everyone else did.
