The UNSUB has made contact.
After a rapid string of grisly murders shakes the usually peaceful city of Arlington, Virginia, the sadistic killings of young women lull into a deceptive calm. Agent Sadie Bonds knows the terror isn’t over; serial killers don’t stop until caught.
And this sadist has targeted the profiler, revealing pieces of her dark past and weaving her secrets into each gruesome crime scene. Is the killer someone from Sadie’s past, her present? Or is he part of a fated future she brought on herself? The answer lies within the riddle of the copycat killings, ones mimicked after the infamous Blood Countess.
As tension brews in the department awaiting the UNSUB’s next move, Sadie’s more than on edge—her deviant cravings for the possible perpetrator have ratcheted out of control. She needs the feel of Colton’s ropes binding her, sheltering her from stark reality.
Only Colton Reed has his own twisted secrets that threaten to unravel not only Sadie as they come to light, but the UNSUB’s carefully constructed web now entangling both the profiler and her sexy bondage rigger.
Is Sadie too close to this case to be objective, or is the UNSUB closer to her than she ever imagined…
Liezel’s Thoughts:
I have to admit that it I was not planning on reading this series but when I came across the striking book cover(s) I decided otherwise. While it was the cover that caught my attention first it was the intriguing synopsis however that drew me in. From then on I was captivated. I couldn’t stop reading even if I tried! As soon as I was done with the first installment I found myself one clicking the next. That is just how addictive this series is!
So a little background about the story… Sadie Bonds is a criminal profiler that is caught up in her current case. She herself is being targeted by a serial killer. What makes it so interesting is that the UNSUB is so in tune with her every move that you come to the conclusion that the perp is either someone who is intimate with her or works very close with her. Knowing this, there aren’t many people on the suspect list. Normally I could tell pretty quickly who is it but oh no, not with this one. Trisha Wolfe definitely keeps us guessing. On one hand I am unsettled not knowing but on the other I feel relieved that the story holds such intrigue.
Another thing I found interesting are the characters. Sadie Bonds is certainly not like any heroine I have come across before. She was a victim herself and in all sense she is now the epitome of a survivor. You can not help but admire her immeasurable strength and courage. I loved that after all that she has been through she manages to reinvent herself. She was able to harness that gruesome experience and apply it into something positive in hopes of helping other (potential) victims. She is simply amazing!
Now I have to be honest and say that I am still up in the air about her counterpart – Colton Reed. Don’t get me wrong, these two fit perfectly. Colton gives Sadie exactly what she needs but what makes me so hesitant is his dark and scary past. Knowing what he did just makes me want to screams “RUN THE FUCK AWAY!” but when you come to witness just how delicate he treats Sadie you want to tell her “Hold and tight and never let go!”
I feel torn… I can’t even remember when was the last time I felt this confused over a character before. This is another reason why I will be patiently waiting for the next installment. Not only do I want to discover the who and why but I also want to see if someone like Colton truly deserves an HEA with someone as fantastic as Sadie.
The only flaw about this book is the cliffhanger. I have become so riveted by this series that I am dying to get to the end. No matter how long I have to wait though… I can already predict it will be nothing but EPIC.
The Verdict:
