Miller “Buck” Butterson has been banging his way through life ever since a puck to the face fixed his messed up front teeth, and he was drafted into the NHL during his first year of college. After five years of deflecting goals on the ice and scoring them with puck bunnies across the Continental US and parts of Canada, Miller is ready for a girlfriend. A real girlfriend of the non-bunny variety. One he takes on dates and doesn’t jump into bed with after five seconds of conversation.
Miller thinks he’s found that woman in his teammate’s sister. Except, unlike Alex Waters, center, team captain and all round nice guy—who happens to be dating his step-sister—Miller’s manwhore reputation is well earned, and not blown out of proportion by the media. Beyond that minor detail, Miller doesn’t know the first thing about having a girlfriend. But he’s determined to make it happen.
What he doesn’t take into account is the amount of time and effort relationships require, or that constantly letting bunnies take selfies with him to post all over social media isn’t going to win him any points in the boyfriend department. Miller learns—not so quickly—that if he wants to make Sunshine “Sunny” Waters fall for him, he going to have to do a whole lot more than show her his stick skills in the bedroom.
Liezel’s Thoughts:
“Pucked Up” is about Miller “Buck” Butterson who we were briefly introduced to in the first book as Alex’s teammate and incidentally Violet’s stepbrother. Given Buck’s popularity, the number of women he takes to his bed is astounding. He gets propositioned constantly and, therefore, is known as a manwhore. Things, however, change once he meets Sunny Waters who happens to be Alex’s sister.
At first Buck’s intentions towards Sunny were questionable. This, in particular, was one of the reasons why the story held my attention. I needed to know if his intentions were pure and if they were – what was Buck willing to do to prove not only to Sunny but also those and closest to her that he was worthy. The question was .. was he successful in showing that he truly cared?
Sure he did and in doing so we were able to see his better and brighter side. Buck’s character building was a tad on the slow side to me, but nonetheless it was good. It was Sunny’s character however that I had issues with. Her side of the story felt like it was lacking. Some of her actions and decisions were immature and quite questionable and I was hoping that the author could have showcased a few positive traits, but it doesn’t happen.
Another thing that was missing was a connection between the couple. Sure they were amazingly “HOT” together. The chemistry was out of control! They were more than passionate in bed… on the kitchen counter, on Alex’s sofa…in the woods (you get the idea) but what I was looking for something deeper than the physical connection and sadly I just didn’t see it.
Because of the first books’ entertainment value and the multiple times that it had me rolling, laughing out loud – I was looking forward to reading “Pucked Up”. I thought that the second installment would have the exact same effect, but I’m going to be honest and say that it doesn’t. The story managed to keep me entertained, but it disappointingly fell short of my expectations. This is why I am going to have to rate this one a….
