My name is Maxton and I’m a trader.

I live on a soulless planet where gravity, oxygen, and everything else are sold to the highest bidder on the black market. People are sold on the black market, too. You have to work really hard not to become one of those people. Pay your taxes, keep your friends and family close, and more than anything else—don’t get caught by the Militia. But all the rules changed for me the day I found her.

My name is Sophelia and I’m a stowaway.

I’ve been a slave for almost as long as I can remember. Waiting for the one day, one second, for my proprietor to turn his head so I could run and never look back. Now I'm on the run. And on a planet where no one is on your side and people would turn you in for a good meal or a piece of a silver, being on the run on Landu is the last place you want to be. Until he found me.

I won't survive without him.

I can't breathe without her.

Angie’s Review:

Shelly has done it again! When I didn’t think her writing could get any better, I read The Other Side of Gravity. Much like other books Shelly writes, it’s flawless, beautiful, heartbreaking and the story sucks you right in. You will either love each character or hate them and sometimes have a love/hate relationship with them.

I love the break from the typical romance book where the man is always doing his thing and the girl is pining away just waiting. Soph is definitely not your typical girl pining away. Even though she’s a teenager, she seems much older than what she is. She has been through a lot and I mean A LOT. She’s someone I would want my daughter to look up to. Soph is strong willed, independent and sometimes reckless but that makes you love her so much more. Her journey to becoming the person she is when she meets Max is heartbreaking. Like Max said…

“Your scars are beautiful because of who you are and what you did to earn them. Don’t ever be ashamed of them.”

Max is another strong character but unlike Soph, his path is much different. He does some shady things but we find out why and start understanding him better. I didn’t care for him at first and once you read you’ll see why but as the book progressed I fell in love with him. He’s there for Soph when she needs him and when she doesn’t need him. They as a whole are a wonderful couple along with 2 great side characters that I’m hoping we get more of in book 2!

If you are wanting a break from the norm, then The Other Side of Gravity is a must read! I absolutely love it and I can’t wait for book 2!

Micah’s Review:

“Give me the breath in your lungs, all the steps you took to get here, the only heart you’ve got, your very soul. I want all there is, Soph.”

WOW! I needed a break from the typical wham, bam, thank you ma’am romance and I saw this gorgeous cover. The description sounded intriguing and I requested it. I could NOT be happier. This book pulled me from page one and I had so much going on in my life, I hated putting it down.

It begins in a prologue that leaves you slightly confused, yet intrigued. You’re introduced to Maxton and Sophelia, our main characters. You’re not exactly sure who they are or why they are important, but they are fighting.

“But life didn’t work that way, did it? You couldn’t think happy thoughts and fly away to Neverland. And you couldn’t kiss girls and have everything in their life that was wrong be right.”

In fact, you’re left a little off kilter for a while because you’re not exactly sure what is going ON in this new world. You know this isn’t Earth, but these are humans. You know things are different, that the social structure is different. But I was dying to soak up this book to get every morsel of information. In between the main story line, we get little tidbits of this new world that humans have had to move to and had to adapt to.

Maxton and Sophelia are great characters and this first book sets up the story perfectly. This is a book one and I NEED book 2 so badly. I was unaware that this was a cliffhanger, but is this story worth it? Yes. Sophelia is feisty and strong when she needs to be, but also soft and compassionate. Without giving too much of the story away, she is perfect for what the story needs.

And Maxton? Well, he is quite swoon-worthy. He’s also a character you can connect with because of his background. In fact, I felt more of a connection with him than with Sophelia because of his family.

“As for you being a plague? If that’s so, then please, infect me. Because I want everything you’ve got to give me.”

See what I mean? He’s great.

The twins, who are referred to in the prologue, but you don’t meet until later, are hilarious. I love them, but I won’t touch too much on them because they aren’t met until much later in the story.

So, book 2? I need it now, please. As fast as possible.

About Shelly Crane

Shelly is a NEW YORK TIMES & USA TODAY bestselling author from a small town in Georgia and loves everything about the south. She is wife to a fantastical husband and stay-at-home mom to two boisterous and mischievous boys who keep her on her toes. She hoards paperbacks, devours sweet tea, searches year-round for candy corn, and loves to spend time with her family and friends, go out to eat at new restaurants, site-see in the new areas they travel to, listen to music, and, of course, loves to read, but doesn’t have much time to these days with all the characters filling her head begging to come out.

Her own books happen by accident and she revels in the writing and imagination process. She doesn’t go anywhere without her notepad for fear of an idea creeping up and not being able to write it down immediately, even in the middle of the night, where her best ideas are born.
