Micah’s Thoughts:
I attended the Sexy and Sassy Signing hosted by author Amy Marie and The Literary Gossip this past weekend on July 9, 2016, in Norfolk, Va. I live about an hour away from the event, so it was a short drive. I actually had the immense pleasure of starting the weekend early and got to attending the roving author dinner the night before. The host of the evening was BT Urruela. The authors would spend about 15 minutes at your table and then move on while you ate. It was a nice introduction to some new authors and a nice time getting to personally chat with some I did.
The sign in process was wonky, in my opinion, and I thought it was going to set the tone for the whole event. However, I was glad to be proved wrong. The entire event was one of the most well-run events I have attended thus far. The longest line I waited in was 45 minutes and that was BT’s line. There should have probably been tickets, but the room was so large (over 60 authors or right around there), there probably would have been no way to call the numbers. Other than that line, I waited no more than 2-3 minutes. I found myself getting annoyed at a 2 minute wait time when at ANY other event, that would have been NOTHING. Seriously, this event was spot on well run. I had a card to get every author’s signature. I thought I would never get 60+ authors signatures in 4 1/2 hours. I got them all done in 2 1/2 hours and would have been done quicker if I didn’t keep forgetting it the first time I visited the tables.
My favorite author to meet was Sierra Simone. I LOVE the book Priest. (Have you read it? It’s PHENOMENAL) I do not gush/fangirl/whatever you call it at all. And I swear I rambled about how much I loved this book. I would also say Melanie Harlow, as I also love her, but I just saw her in Cleveland two weeks earlier. I also met a ton of new to me authors, which I will be checking out very soon!
The Verdict:
