When I opened my eyes, I was in a cell, my body covered in bruises.
Not a jail.
I’d been kidnapped and imprisoned.
I wasn’t alone. I shared the cell with Garin Woods, the man I’d loved since I was a kid.
The man I couldn’t be with because of the secret. A man who would kill me if he found out what that secret was.
Someone wanted to torture me.
Torture us.
One of us deserved it.
It wasn’t Garin.
Liezel’s Thoughts:
As teenagers growing up in the projects, Gavin, Kyle, and Billy were inseparable. They relied heavily on each other in every single way up to point where I couldn’t foresee one surviving without the other. Their friendships crumble however once tragedy takes someone close to their heart.
From then on, they went their own separate ways. At first, I couldn’t comprehend why this would drive a wedge between them. If anything, they needing each other more than ever during that difficult time. Come to find out, each of them is carrying a burden of secrets.
Secrets. This is the one important thing that held my attention. As the synopsis states, both Gavin and Kyle are held in captivity, threatened, tortured, forced to reveal these secrets. This goes on for more than half of the book which I thought was beyond overwhelming. The positive thing about this is as the punishment goes on Gavin and Kyle’s relationship evolves and strengthens.

If I found mine would I put her/him through all that hardship? I think not. That being said, I had issues finding the soul-deep connection between this couple.
I have to say that I do love dark romances but the punishment that was dealt made me feel extremely uncomfortable which is another reason why I had issues with this story. I honestly didn’t think I would have any limits but I know now that mutilation and the threats thereof is a known breaking point for me.
The bottom line is , I am torn about this book. There were some aspects that I enjoyed – such as that perfect conclusion but then when I think about all the things they had to go through to get there …I am not entirely too convinced that it was all worth it. This is why I rate this story a….
