One story. Two couples.
I fell in love with a man who didn’t exist.
What started out as romance ended in hell.
His words turned to razor blades.
His kisses converted to fists.
His embrace became my cage.
His body transformed into a weapon, stealing parts of me until ultimately….
I hated him.
My sole job in life became to protect our daughter.
I wasn’t sure I’d ever escape the prison he’d skillfully crafted from my fears.
Until the day our savior arrived.
This is the story of how I escaped the man who thought he owned me.
The transfer of my life and my family.
I used the analogy of Russian nesting dolls for Retrieval: just when you thought you knew the story, a nesting doll would open and a new story would emerge. Transfer is the second story in the duet and completes the story for the four characters Luke/Heath, Clare, Roman, and Elisabeth. While Retrieval mainly focuses on Roman and Elisabeth, Transfer mainly focuses on Luke/Heath and Clare.
Again, I am not going to really comment on the story line. I don’t want to expose too much because it is masterful how it is set up and exposed. While I didn’t think this one was a good as the first, I was left completely satisfied at the end of the book. I sincerely love all of these characters and want more. I wish there were more books to this, selfishly, but I know the book ended where it needed to.
Overall, I would give this a 4.25. I felt like it lacked some character development for Clare. But, I fully and wholeheartedly recommend these books.
