In the sixth novel of Dianne Sylvan’s Shadow World series, vampire Queen Miranda Grey’s immortal family is on the verge of breaking. She and her husband David now rule most of the United States since their mysterious new enemy, the Order of the Morningstar, began assassinating the leaders of the vampire world. Her best friend Deven is a broken ghost of who he once was after a loss that should have taken his life. And Nico, the creature who left his entire world behind to help them, is losing his immense arsenal of magical power – and his will to live – inch by inch.

But now, in the midst of a national tour to support her recent album, the situation goes from bad to worse: Miranda’s darkest secret is about to cause her two worlds to collide. When Morningstar moves more of its pieces into place and nearly destroys one of her own, the only choice Miranda and her family have is a gambit so audacious it could change the entire game…but will the fallout be a blessing, a curse, or something made of both?

Liezel’s Thoughts:

I switched favorite genres years ago yet there are a handful of paranormal/ urban fantasy series that I just can’t seem to let go and the Shadow World is one of them. What I love about the series is seeing how a weak and vulnerable human –  Miranda Grey changes over the years.

She isn’t the only one changing. The story line itself now involves not only vampires but now witches and elves too. Witnessing how the different beings create this formidable bond is what keeps these book interesting.

The story starts off shaky at best. After the loss of his beloved, Deven is out of control and is taking Nico down with him. David is just about done with him which is concerning considering their history. I kept wondering what would it take for him to snap out of it and my gosh Dianne Sylvan doesn’t disappoint in delivering blow after blow.

Again, the twist and turns are endless. Way to shake up the Shadow World! After Deven got his shit together, I was completely immersed. I definitely couldn’t put the book down.

My only regret is the wait…Dianne, any chance you can write the next book any faster? I need more of this tetrad in my life! Wait, what? Yes! I know you’re curious now. If you are a fan of the Shadow World Series like I am, pick this book up and find out what exactly I am talking about!

The Verdict:

About Dianne Sylvan
