A boy looked in a window, to see a naughty show
Through the pane of pain, the master clown did blow
The circus is a holy tent, the keeper of my rhyme
Where I forged my chains, creating this pantomime
Pretending to be normal, I wait until after dark
Then I paint the frown on, get a whore from the park
At the bottom of that bed was a darling in a chest
She watched with big eyes, horror hooking her from rest
She dances for the maniac, twirling on her strings
I will make her mine, sharing damaged things
I will be her riddle, she will help me grin
So why does she run away, she has to let me in
No one loves the clown, not even the midget
We’ve gone too far, she will know my secret
Love can break the hardest mask, I know this to be true
Nightmares have hearts too, I only needed you

Angie’s Thoughts:

Cirque is weirdly hot as it takes you on a wild ride into the mind of a man and his clown. I was strangely turned on by this book. I don’t find clowns attractive at all. But Ashleigh certainly opens your eyes to viewing them in a new, slightly demented light.

K. Webster kept raving about this book so I decided to take the plunge. I’m glad I did. Sivan was my icing on the cake. So delicate at times and darkly delicious that I couldn’t get enough of him. I craved more all the way up until the bitter end. My soul wasn’t satisfied. I never in a million years thought I would say a clown was my BBF but Sivan totally is!

Liezel’s Thoughts:

Clowns have always crept me the hell out. I am certain most of you would agree that it’s the anonymity that gives us that feeling of unease. This is what made me pick up this book –  this urgency to find out what was beneath the face paint and figure out what made these characters tick.

At the very start, Cirque made me feel uncomfortable but that feeling immediately morphed into intrigue.  Both Sivan and  Imogene aren’t like any other couple that I’ve met before which definitely is a plus. They were each in their own eccentric but in all sense, they fit.

Now, just an FYI the Act 1 doesn’t end like I would have wanted it to (cliff) but don’t let this deter you since Cirque: Act 2 has always been released.  Personally,  A. Giannoccaro caught my attention and I can’t wait to read more of her work. I definitely would suggest taking a chance with this one!  Step outside the box and read this book.
