In the darkness is where I first met him.
Alone at a water fountain, tears rolling down my cheeks.
Ready to give up.
From the shadows, his voice came to me.
Soothing. Comforting. Rough as the blackest night.
I didn’t see him.
I didn’t even know his name.
All I knew was he saved me that night.
He put my back on my feet.
And he kept me on them.
Every single time I needed him, he found a way to come to me.
My stranger of the night.
My dark warrior.
My name is Scarlett. You probably know me.
I’m America’s number one country music star.
I’m also the loneliest girl you’ll ever meet.
He’s as free as a bird. A nomad. Travelling alone.
Nobody to hold him back.
He holds the freedom I pray for every single day.
He shows me that life can be so much more than what I’m living.
When danger comes knocking, he’ll also show me a different world.
A world I never knew existed.
A world that both terrifies and fascinates me.
A world that goes against everything I’ve ever known.
A world of Iron Fury
Q & A Review by Angie & Liezel
What would you do if a hot guy on a motorcycle was following you?
Angie: I wouldn’t have reacted the way Scarlett did. Lol, Some women thought Ted Bundy was good looking and nice. You see where that got them. So yea… I would’ve been extremely cautious. Scarlett trusted her gut though and it worked out for her. Sometimes living on the edge can be fun.
Liezel: I would first be anxious then I’m sure curious. If I was in Scarlett’s shoes I would’ve been more hesitant considering her past but the way she and Maverick first met was no ordinary thing. She recognized immediately that he would play a momentous role in her life.
Would you have sex with two different people in one day?
Angie: If I was single and had no attachment to the men then yes I would. It’s basically like a threesome, right? Now if I had feelings for a guy then I would never have sex with someone else. That basically will ruin whatever relationship I’m trying to build with that person.
Liezel: Personally, no. I’m one of those that has to have an emotional connection with someone when it comes to sex. I am not judging those that do this kind of thing though. Sometimes spontaneity can be a good (pleasurable) thing.
What did you love about the book? Is there anything in the book or about the book that you would like to be different? If so what?
Angie: I love that it’s a slow burn. It’s not insta-love and there’s not a lot of sex in it. The sex scenes are hot, though, don’t get me wrong but it was a nice change. Ms. Jewel focused more on telling a story and that story was consuming.
I would’ve loved for it to been longer. I felt like parts of the book were rushed and those areas I would’ve loved more backstory or dialogue. I don’t know if Bella did this on purpose and will discuss them in future books but with how the book ended I don’t think she will. Other than that I loved it and couldn’t read it fast enough!
Liezel: I loved that the romance was between such an unlikely couple. A top-charting country singer and a biker? Who would have thought? I seriously couldn’t imagine these two together and that is one of the many things that kept me enraptured in the story.
Just like Angie, I wish it was longer. Maverick and Scarlett had so many issues to work through in the end of Whiskey Burning. Hopefully, we won’t have to wait that long for the rest of their story.
What do you think about Scarlett and Maverick?
Angie: I admit at first I wasn’t a huge fan of Scarlett. She was a weak heroine who was constantly being run over but by the end of the book, I loved her. She really grew in this book and I loved how we seen her finding her voice.
Maverick was a little creepy. I really thought he was a stalker of hers but I couldn’t have been more wrong. I loved him until one part and I hated him. I can’t say why here because of spoilers but I couldn’t see straight I was so pissed. I’m still upset with him.
Liezel: There were times where I was frustrated with both of them – Scarlett for losing herself and letting someone else control her and Maverick for his anger issues and unwillingness to listen.
As they spend more time together though, a lot of my frustrations faded away. Maverick gave Scarlett so much strength and courage enough to change things and in return, Scarlett was that one person that snapped Maverick out of his misery. I loved them together.
Would you recommend this book?
Angie: Yes I would! Whiskey Burning is a fast-paced suspense book that will leave any fan wanting more. Bella Jewel never ceases to amaze me with the worlds she creates her characters to live in and even the characters themselves. It’s so easy to close your eyes and see the world she creates. This book was a prime example of it.
Liezel: Whiskey Burning had the perfect balance between suspense, mystery, and romance and this is why it was one of those books that I could barely put down. If you don’t mind the minor cliff at the end then I definitely recommend reading this now. For me, I am completely hooked and can not wait to read the rest of this intriguing series.
