Rex Gunner. As bitter as he is beautiful.

The owner of the largest construction company in Gingham Lakes has been burned one too many times. His wife leaving him to raise their daughter was the last blow this single dad could take. The only woman he’ll let into his heart is his little girl.

Rynna Dayne. As vulnerable as she is tempting.

She ran from Gingham Lakes when she was seventeen. She swore to herself she would never return. Then her grandmother passed away and left her the deed to the diner that she once loved.

When Rex meets his new neighbor, he knows he’s in trouble.

She’s gorgeous and sweet and everything he can’t trust.

Until she becomes the one thing he can’t resist.

One kiss sends them tumbling toward ecstasy.

But in a town this size, pasts are bound to collide. Caught in a web of lies, betrayal, and disloyalty, Rex must make a choice.

Will he hide behind his walls or will he take the chance . . .

 Liezel’s Thoughts:

As I was reading Show Me The Way, I realized it has been awhile since I picked up a book by A. L. Jackson and I thought “WHY?! What was preventing me from reading author’s work?” What is  so great about her stories is the honesty in her words. The emotions she pours into each and one of her stories feel so genuine, it was as if I was experiencing them firsthand.

Rex Gunner is as bitter as they come. My first impression of him was he was hateful, distant and unlikable but then he became the complete opposite when in the presence of his adorable little girl, Frankie Leigh. The way he treated  Rynna Dayne was despicable but when we delve further into the story you realize those strong emotions could run both ways. He fought so hard against it…

“I needed her out. Gone. Away. Where she couldn’t confuse, corrupt and confound. Where she couldn’t riddle my mind a tempt my hand. Where she didn’t hold the power to squeeze between the cracks….”

You could really feel inner turmoil, his restraint – him fighting against what his soul craved, what his heart truly wanted. It took him a long time to give in, but once he did, the wait was well worth it…

“You make me feel again. You make me feel like every chance is one worth taking. Like you’re leading me out of the darkness that’s ruled my life. WHen I close my eyes, who I see is you. Show me the way, Rynna. Show me the way out of it. Please, show me the way.”

What kept me completely enraptured was discovering the reasons why he thought he didn’t deserve happiness. Why he was holding back for so long and if Rynna was worthy enough for such an amazing father like Rex and she definitely was. Just like Rex, she had a painful past which made you realize that they aren’t so different after all.

The way AL Jackson brought their story full circle was remarkable. It was so unexpected. I appreciated how she proved to us that this couple was fated to be. Even Gramma knew. Long gone and she still managed to make one lasting impression by sharing meaningful life lessons. Loved that!

In fact, I loved everything about this book that was so full of heartfelt moments and showed genuine emotions. Read this book! It will not only have you craving for cherry pie but for more of the Fight For Me Series.
