When I first met Jasmine Greene, she came in as raindrops.

I was the awkward musician, and she was the high school queen.
The only things we had in common were our music and our loneliness.

Something in her eyes told me her smile wasn’t always the truth.
Something in her voice gave me a hope I always wished to find.
And in a flash, she was gone.

Years later, she was standing in front of me on a street in New Orleans.
She was different, but so was I. Life made us colder. Harder. Isolated.

Caged.

Even though we were different, the broken pieces of me recognized the sadness in her.
Now she was back, and I wouldn’t make the mistake of letting her go again.

When I first met Jasmine Greene, she came in as raindrops.
When we met again, I became her darkest storm.

Liezel’s Thoughts:

The first thing I did after reading this book was message a bookish friend who already read the book and asked… ” How do you even write a review for a book this amazing?” I am seriously finding it extremely difficult to put into words how this book made me feel.

Behind The Bars revolves around Jasmine Greene who from a very young age is basically being forced into becoming a pop singer. She definitely has what it takes – the beauty, the brains, the presence, the all-around talent,  the knack for music but what she is lacking is heart.

She is miserable and the only time she catches a glimpse of happiness is when she is in Elliott’s presence. Just like Jazz, Elliott is existing in a desolation of his own and only experiences the light when he is with Jazz. Just at sixteen, it is evident that what they feel for each other is soul-deep.

Finding that they were soulmates was half the battle with these two.  From then on, Brittainy C. Cherry takes us on a bittersweet journey that will literally bring you tears multiple times over but will be well completely worth it in the very end.

What I loved about the story was how I felt immediately connected with the main characters. Even the supporting characters were fantastic.  As I mentioned, the author’s skill and precision when it came to detailing each character’s emotion was impressive.   I felt as if I going through what they were firsthand.

I loved everything about this book. This is definitely one of those stories that will stay with me for awhile.

The Verdict:

About Brittainy C. Cherry

Brittainy Cherry has been in love with words since the day she took her first breath. She graduated from Carroll University with a Bachelors Degree in Theatre Arts and a minor in Creative Writing. She loves to take part in writing screenplays, acting, and dancing–poorly of course. Coffee, chai tea, and wine are three things that she thinks every person should partake in! Brittainy lives in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with her family. When she’s not running a million errands and crafting stories, she’s probably playing with her adorable pets.
