New school. New friendships. New life.

Not so much.

Alexandra is pissed about her parents abandoning her. She's beyond pissed that her friends did the same. She's enraged because things are unclear about her brother's death now. So her first stop is at Jesse's house to demand answers. She wants to know why her brother was friends with the criminal crowd before he died and she knows he holds the answers. But when she sees him, she doesn't get the answers she expected. Instead, she finds out that their chemistry never faded and soon heats up again!

Some habits die hard. Soon Jesse and Alex are back to their ways of sneaking around. He's a near-celebrity at school and she doesn't want to deal with the backlash of being his girlfriend. Alex is tired of being hurt so she's learned the lesson not to confide and lean on others. However, she can't seem to help herself when it comes to Jesse Hunt. The big question isn't if she will survive if their relationship goes public, it's if she will survive when the real truths about her family and brother come out? Or when she learns that Jesse knows more than what he's told her?

Liezel’s Thoughts:

Alone and abandoned Alex had so much time on her hands all she did was study which led her to earn a  full-time scholarship to  Grant West University where Jesse’s is. What is the first thing she does when she gets there? She immediately goes to his house. After all those months of silence, she decides it’s high time for her to finally get some answers.

As much as Alex said to Angie that she is done with Jesse in the previous book Alex can not deny that there remains to be something still between them and again she ends up back in his arms. It isn’t the same, though. While in Book 1 Alex was Jesse’s little secret and their relationship was totally based on being a physical escape in this book it is quite the opposite.

They both realize that their relationship is more than just that. Of course, at first they preferred hiding but as the weeks went on it started to become a complication. Jesse wanted to come out in the open and this time around Alex didn’t. She didn’t want to be targeted by all the crazies that were after Jesse’s attention.

Of course, their secret could not be kept for long. However, this isn’t the only thing that remains a secret between them. She has yet to tell him what her parents have done. He also has life changing information concerning her brother’s death. And let me tell you… these secrets are so not what you would have expected.

“You were my fucking sanctuary, that’s what you were to me. You were my guilty indulgence. I should’ve stayed away from you, but I couldn’t. I still can’t. Jeezus. Look at me. I’m damn near on my knees here.”

That is one of the things that I loved about these books. They are so unpredictable.  Let’s just say that there was so much more going on in Ethan’s world that we originally thought.

Another thing that’s great is the character building. I kind of detested Jesse for treating Alex the way he did in the first book – he treated her like trash. She more than deserved better than that and that is exactly what Jesse gives her in this book. He turns a new leaf and becomes the one that pursues Alex to the nth degree. Have you always wondered why he was such a douche to her? It is explained perfectly in this story.

I absolutely adored Alex. She went through so much I wanted to just pull her into my arms and cradle her.  Yeah, she had so many emotional breakdowns but if you knew the amount of problems that she had you would totally understand where she was coming from. She dealt with them the best way that she could given the circumstances. As her friends put it she was a survivor.

I thought the pairing between her and Jesse was remarkable. With all of the issues that they’ve been through together, there is no way that their bond would have ever been broken. I thought the romance and passion between them was all throughout superb.

Loved this book – in fact, I love all of Tijan’s books. She just has this way of bringing all the characters emotions to the surface where we as readers get to feel firsthand what each of them is experiencing. Loved the story flow,  the drama the unexpected twist and turns that kept me on my toes and my mind reeling.  The entire series is a definite must read.
