First, he saved me.
I lived because he was a hero.
And then he was gone.
Uprooted by the fire that destroyed our home, my family moved away and I never saw David Andrews again.
Then, he found me.
Eighteen years later, he rescued me again - in much simpler terms, of course. By loving me, by giving me the fairy tale I’d always hoped for, he provided me with the perfect life.
Now, he needs to be saved.
It’s my turn to be strong, to be brave, to be valiant.
When flames threaten to turn us to ashes, it’s up to me to pull us From the Wreckage.

Liezel’s Thoughts:

It has been awhile since I’ve read a book by Melissa Collins. As I was finishing this book last night, I wondered what has kept me away from her books for so long because her writing has always impressed me. Same is to be said by this story. “From The Wreckage” is about a couple who were certainly fated to be together and as far as that “How did you two meet?” question that couples are always asked,   their first meeting was considerably a remarkable one.

They met at a very young age but because of an almost fatal incident they were separated. Eighteen years pass without any contact when out of the blue they unexpectedly reconnect. At first, it almost felt that their pull towards each other was just based on an immediate physical attraction  but as  the story progresses it isn’t like that at all.

What kept me so entranced was witnessing just how  deep their connection goes. When they  meet again as adults it was as if souls instantaneously recognized each other. It didn’t matter that they didn’t know what the other looked like – they just knew deep within that they were bound to be together.  This is what I loved most about this book – how Melissa Collins effortlessly convinced us that Grace and David were irrevocably soul mates.

Another great thing about this book was the overall theme. I loved that it focused on firefighters. Their selflessness and bravery do not get acknowledged enough, but the author sure did a great job in doing so in this story. The way the she was able to manipulate such a historical event (that of 9/11) was beyond perfection. I  appreciated Melissa Collins’ approached  on such a sensitive matter. Those elements were addressed with  sensitivity, respect and reverence that I couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed with emotions.

“From The Wreckage” for me wasn’t just your typical romance rather it was a well-written, multi-faceted and emotional story that not only provided  a remarkable insight into a monumental real life occurrence but also exhibited an unparalleled love  between  an amazing couple.

About Melissa Collins

I’ve always been an avid reader. Majoring in English Literature was a no brainer. Becoming a teacher and instilling my love for reading into my students was also a no brainer. I’ve spent the last ten years teaching and I’ve loved (mostly) every minute of it. When I was home on maternity leave for my third son, I discovered a new genre that sparked my creativity. My passion for writing sprang from my love of reading and once I knew I had a story to tell, I couldn’t wait to get it out there. I only hope that my readers enjoy reading my story as much as I enjoyed writing it.
