n her twenty-fifth adventure, vampire hunter and necromancer Anita Blake learns that evil is in the eye of the beholder...

Anita has never seen Damian, her vampire servant, in such a state. The rising sun doesn’t usher in the peaceful death that he desperately needs. Instead, he’s being bombarded with violent nightmares and blood sweats.

And now, with Damian at his most vulnerable, Anita needs him the most. The vampire who created him, who subjected him to centuries of torture, might be losing control, allowing rogue vampires to run wild and break one of their kind’s few strict taboos.

Some say love is a great motivator, but hatred gets the job done, too. And when Anita joins forces with her friend Edward to stop the carnage, Damian will be at their side, even if it means traveling back to the land where all his nightmares spring from...a place that couldn’t be less welcoming to a vampire, an assassin, and a necromancer.

Ireland.

Liezel’s Thoughts:

After reading the Crimson Death synopsis months ago, I immediately thought this was the book that could turn the entire series around. It seriously had so much potential! And I do have to admit there were some great components but what diminished the overall story yet again was all the (what I call) “fillers”.

At the very beginning, I appreciated catching up with the main characters but when all the inconsequential extras kept appearing left and right, I kept getting distracted. There were so many times where I just wanted to say “OMG, get on with it. Let’s go to Ireland already.”

It was halfway through the book when things became interesting. Anita justifying herself and her relationship among the outsiders was tedious but getting past all that and finally into the crux of the story – it did pay off.

I would have to say that one of the positive things about Crimson Death was observing the triumvirate evolve. To see how far LKH will eventually take these particular characters plus witnessing the wedding(s) of the century are the two reasons why I will be coming back for more.

The Verdict:
