Maggie Young had the market on normal. Normal friends, normal parents, normal grades...normal life.
Until him.
Clayton Reed was running from his past and an army of personal demons that threatened to take him down. He never thought he had a chance at happiness.
Until her.
Maggie thought their love could overcome anything. Clay thought she was all he needed to fix his messy life.
That together, they could face the world.
But the darkness is always waiting.
Sometimes the greatest obstacle to true love is within yourself.
Liezel’s Thoughts:
“Just know that you are and always will be my world. You found me in the dark and saved me from myself….I will love you forever.”
I for one, remember my teenage years pretty vividly. It was confusing to say the least. Besides the changes happening in my body, the unpredictable hormones, my repeated failed attempts in finding independence from the parents there was also the struggle of fitting in and discovering new relationships. Can’t even imagine going through all of this and adding young/first love into the equation. And if that’s not over the top, what about falling in love with someone emotionally unstable all at the same time.
Maggie was living a very simple and boring life until she literally tripped over Clayton. Ever since that first morning in school, Maggie made it a point to get to know Clayton and soon after their relationship evolves into something dysfunctional yet so beautiful.
Getting into YA romance has always been difficult for me and the beginning of the story started out so common that I thought that I was going to have to rate it a “DNF-try again later book” which I’m glad I didn’t because it is now one of my all time favorites.
I can’t even imagine how difficult it was to author this story, how she described every character, every emotion was so vivid and passionate I found myself staring into nothingness trying to digest every sentence. My hats off to you A. Meredith Walters for writing a book this beautiful.
The Verdict:
Casting Picks:
Chase Crawford as Clay
Barbara Palvin as Maggie May
What I expect in Book 2:
Reading the synopsis, I keep thinking about the possible “sudden tragedy that brings Maggie and Clay face to face again”. I’m assuming we will be loosing one of the supportive characters. I hope it’s not Daniel or Rachel. (Maybe Aunt Ruby then?).
I’m hoping that Clay finds his appropriate treatment for his condition and obtain emotional stability and that Maggie forgives him and accepts him back. I’m hoping that in the end, they mature together and of course get their HEA.
A couple of things that I’m looking forward to … 1) if Maggie moves on or is in a new relationship while Clayton is getting treatment in Florida 2) how his parents will react to Clayton and Maggie’s eventual “rekindled” relationship 3) it there are any effects of having unprotected sex on that bench in NC 4) I honestly want to know how their relationship progresses in their next 5-10+ years.
Cloud Walking
Synopsis:
While Clay and Maggie were falling apart…
Daniel and Rachel were falling in love.
Rachel Bradfield has loved Daniel Lowe for most of her life. She has had to sit quietly by while he throws his feelings away on a girl who doesn’t deserve them. Rachel knows she can be everything he needs.
Daniel has always known Rachel was special. She is one of his best friends. But what Daniel doesn’t realize is that the girl he has known forever might just be the one he really wants.
Love pulls two people together, while tearing two others apart. As Daniel and Rachel discover the beauty of first love their best friend loses her heart to the deepest darkness. Unable to hold Maggie together, Rachel and Daniel find out that love doesn’t have to hurt and that it can change your life.
To me this was just a little blurb to bridge the gap between book 1 & 2 for obsessed fans life me. Just like the first book I enjoyed the writing. I thought the author did well giving us a glimpse into Rachel and Daniel’s thoughts and was able to incorporate it smoothly into Clay/ Maggie’s story. I honestly wish it was longer or that the 2nd book gets released sooner!
